Recorded from front row center, right in front of Britt. I was a little worried his vocals and guitar would be too overpowering since I was right in
front of his monitors, but the recording came out really well. You can hear someone near me singing along fairly loudly at some points, but it's not
too often and isn't too distracting. As for the show itself, it was a lot of fun. This was my second time seeing Spoon (first was opening for
Arcade Fire in 2010), so I knew it would be a good time. Lots of energy from the whole band, and all the songs sounded fantastic. The new album got
lots of play of course, but there's a pretty good mix of older stuff in there too. Their written set list had "Is Love Forever" after "I Ain't the
One," but they decided to skip that one and instead throw in "Small Stakes" a little later on, which wasn't planned. The track "[Alex's Solo]" is
more or less an intermission, with Alex playing the keyboard while the rest of the band left the stage briefly before returning for "I Ain't the One."
The opener was Tennis, who I did not record. They were kind of fun, but not really my thing.
